Blue Funk, Birds and Oh Yes, a Birthday!

Did I tell you that I am new to blogging and I hope you will comment?
Usually I am a very upbeat and happy lady.  Lately, I have been kind of in a blue funk.  I did not really know why.  I have much to be thankful for.  I have a good job, a good man and good friends.  I was looking forward to my birthday… so I thought.
I also have loads of friends on two social networking sites.  Oh and as a digression, aren’t we a bit crazy to talk to our friends in town on facebook when we could just pick up the phone or see them in person?
I have a home that is pretty much decorated like I want and we just got a new patio built and some bird feeders which have attracted the most beautiful cardinals.  Sometimes we have as many as eight cardinals in the back yard.  Also pyrrhuloxias live back there and I have included a photo for those of you who have never heard of this bird.  That brings immense pleasure to watch these little birds because they are a bit shy.  But again, I digress.
Also I have lost 18 lb since April of this year and my medications have all been reduced.  So this is all good right?  Plus I just got a new computer.
Back to the birthday... (Oh, THAT!)  I have been mentioning to the DH that this year is my 60th birthday since January and now it is almost here and he has done nothing.  I could have planned it myself, but was hoping for him to do something!  Also I had hoped that by this age I would have been able to fly off to some desert island and do nothing for a few days, but ah, that is not in the cards.  I wanted a big party, but it is too late to plan that.  Or he could buy me a diamond ring, but I know that won’t happen either.  So I am being a grown-up baby.
Now you see that I don’t have ALL the answers to life’s questions!  Its men, you see that I don’t have the answer for.
Oh, you know he will do something, but nothing I have mentioned to him.
Also, I want a sewing machine.  Not just any sewing machine, but a sewing machine that embroiders.  Well, I now am having extensive dental work done, and the dental insurance is not that good.  Also, we are politically involved and have been giving to some campaigns recently… so I am pretty sure that our funds are depleted for a huge party, an embroidery sewing machine or a diamond ring.
Instead of giving in to this blue funk, I am thinking that writing about it will make me feel better.  Also, I am doing my best to be grateful for all I have since there are so many less fortunate in the world.

  1. You are right that blogging is a great way to get out of your "blue funk". No matter what I'm going through, thinking of a funny or interesting way to write about it makes it much easier. I like doing "exposés" of minimum wage jobs for example.
Totally with you on wandering, I am a gypsy it's the best way to live!
Look forward to reading more from you, good luck to you!

p.s. it's not your birthday yet...he might be overwhelmed at the importance of this birthday and secretly freaking out because he can't think of a good enough idea that is worthy of you. (I don't think men are as good at time management, at least mine isn't, he does everything at the last minute, but not because he doesn't care.)

  2. I hope he reads this and realises that he needs to pull his finger out and sort something impressive for your birthday and pronto!
